It looks to me like Ragnar [H. Hall] doesn't take into consideration the emergency laws in this regard. They alter the fundimental presumtions in regarding claims to the assets. According to them deposits are absolute preferential claims and equal' says Steingrímur J. Sigfússon minister of finance about the critique that Ragnar H. Hall barrister put forth in a news article in the Morgunblaðið yesterday.

Franek Rozwadowski og Mark Flanagan frá Alþjóðagjaldeyrissjóðnum.Franek Rosvadovsky, representitive of the IMF in Iceland, saya in the news at the National Radio, that Icelands agreement with Britain and Holland about Icesave will not make the national economy go upside down.

He says though that he can't claim that these are the best possible agreements that are to be had.

Haarde, then PM, asked the states lawyer in November to work on a report about a possible rulingparties in the debate of Icelanders on the one hand and Brits/Dutch on the other hand because of the Icesave matter. The report was made by University teachers Björg Thorarensen, Stefán Már Stefánsson and Víðir Már Matthíasson.

The supreme court has rescinded the ruling of the district court of Reykjavik but the court has dismissed the claim of AFL labor union about authorizing a duty on Landsbanki Islands and Landsvaki to hand over a detailed overview of assets of the money market funds of Landsbanki for the term from September 1st till October 28th 2009. The supreme court sent the case to a district court judge to review the case.

It has now been confirmed that the freezing of the assets of Landsbanki in London is to be lifted on Monday June 15th. This is in the announcement on the website of the English FSA. There says that the freezing is lifted because of the Icesave so-called Icesave contract which the Icelandic government made with the English and Dutch governments.

Landsvaki hf operational company of stocks and investment funds of Landsbanki has now opened for business a new mutual fund that has been named Reidubref - government insured.

In the announcement says that the fund is operated according to the law about stock funds and investment funds. The fund which is meant for individuals and professional investors, is suitable for those investors who want a spread out collection of short government insured stocks.

Landsbanki has decided to merge the branch on Hofdabakki and Grafarholt and the merged branch will be operated in the housing of the Grafarholt branch at Vinholtsleid. Also has been decided to merge two branches of the district of Snaefellsbaer - the service branch in Hellissandur and the branch in Olafsvik - with headquarters at Olafsbraut in Olafsvik. The first work day in the merged branches is to be on May 24th.

Association of Dutch savings owners who had 100 thousand króna balance in the Icesave accounts of Landsbanki in the Netherlands say they will file a lawsuit on Iceland to the management of the European Union and the Surveillance Authority of EFTA if the balances are not paid out next week.

600 brits in Spain prepare a lawsuit on Landsbanki  E-mail

Around 600 Brits who own houses in Spain are now preparing a lawsuit on Landsbanki. They are now trying what they can to prevent losing their homes.

This was reported in English media today. There it said that the Brits had been convinced to leverage their properties and put the total amount of the loan into a fund that was run by Landsbanki.

Sigurjon Th. Arnason, former bank governor of Landsbanki, took the decision to sponsor the independence party with 25 million krona on his own. The other bank governor of the bank and the bank council did not participate in this decision. This grant had a different treatment  than the 5 million krona grant that was issued early in 2007.

The balances of public institutions insurance companies and investment companies in the Icesave accounts of Landsbanki in England and the Netherlands are around 150 billion krona. There of could around 444 million krona fall on the insurance fund of balance owners. The Icelandic government did not use the authorization of the EEA contract to waiver this part of the balances from the responsibility of the fund.

"The financial strength of all of the banks is depending on the founding contribution of the government which has not yet been set. The terrorist legislation set by the British authorities on Landsbanki in October 2008 are still affecting the fund transfers of the new Landsbanki with other countries. The bank has not been able to take it over like the other two government banks have been doing lately, that is New Kaupthing and Islandsbanki.

A committee which is following the financial matters of the communes in Britain say that many of them had fallen asleep on the watch and not paid enough attention to what was happening. The former CEO of Landsbanki Luxemburg, Gunnar Thoroddsen, says that the clients of the banks who took the asset loans were well aware of the risk involved.

Morgunbladid reported yesterday about the pensioner Jack Hemus and the Barlow couple are now afraid that they might lose their homes after the liquidating committee of Landsbanki in Luxemburg now demands that they pay up their loans to the bank. Their house is a collateral for the loan. Hemus lives on the sunny shore of Spain, but the Barlow couple lives in the French riviera. They have looked for the assistance from a lawyer and say that they are victims of fraud.

The loans became unfortunate  E-mail

Hundreds of clients of  Landsbanki Luxemburg now have to pay the loans they took from the bank back. The loans were not traditional loans, as the clients only received 25% of the loan, and the bank was supposed to collect interests on the remainder of the loan and the clients made a contract about the bank investing that amount in funds, shares, bonds and currencies.

The idea was that the interests of the funds would be so that the client would not have to pay the loan back. The income of the fund would take care of that.

 
Landsbanki moratorium prolonged  E-mail

The district court of Reykjavik approved today the request of the liquidating committee of Landsbanki Islands hf about a nine month prolonging of the moratorium of the bank, or till November 26th 2009. The request of the prolonging was not objected by the claim owners when the case was in session.
