The bank collapse has had a profound affect on lawyers where many of them are now working more hours per day, under more stress than before for less wages. This is included in the results of a survey which was made amongst the Lawyer union of Iceland and is published in the most recent Lawyer gazette.
The economic collapse had an affect on the on the work environment of roughly 56% of lawyers according to the survey. In total were 66% of lawyers who work for companies and institutions have been affected by the collapse but only half of those who work in law offices. |

Landsbanki has taken over the company Fjolnisvegur 9 ehf, which was owned by Hannes Smarason. The company owned Fjolnisvegur 11 in Reykjavik and a flat in London. According to the information from Landsbanki has the bank taken over the assets.

The ships of Hvalur hf. has brought 117 fin whales of the 150 that have been authorized this season. Hvalur 9 and Hvalur 8 brought four animals in on Sunday to the whale station in Hvalfjordur which had so marked history. |

The left win party in Reykjavik condemn the plans of the majority of the city council to sell the share of Reykjavik Energy in HS Orka. The sale of energy companies to private parties is a mistake. This is written in a report which was approved at the party meeting of the LWP in Reykjavik yesterday.

The city council approved at their meeting yesterday to look into the option of selling the covered car parking houses to private parties. The suggestion was set forward by a representative of the left wing party and approved by votes by the left wing party and majority of the independence party and progressive party. |

The police of the capital area was unable to tend to five calls tonight because of work load. The Morgunbladid has documents that show amongst other that one of these calls were because of a break in where the house owner was able to scare the burglars away.
Another police officer has now stepped forward and sent an anonymous letter about the situation inside the police and the effect of the enormous cut backs on the police. There says that at least for the past two nights where under normal conditions should have been categorized as calm, were "crazy" and the police had been unable to tend to many calls.

The bankrupt estate of Samson, the holding company of the Bjorgolf father and son, has filed five law suits against Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson himself and related companies because of trades that took place before Samson went into moratorium. The announced claims on the bankrupt estate of Samson is getting close to 100 billion króna as is, but its assets are only roughly 2,3 billion króna. The bankrupt estate of Samson sued Straumur Equities because of trades that took place on June 25th 2008 with shares in the holding company MGM but the only asset of that company was a 16,7% share in Arvakur publishing company of Morgunbladid.

The spokesperson of the Bjorgolf father and son, Asgeir Fridgeirsson does not want to comment on if the offer of Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson and Bjorgolfur Thor Bjorgolfsson about writing off their debt with New Kaupthing is a sign of the latter not being able to pay his debt to new Kaupthing.
As Frettabladid reported yesterday have the Bjorgolf father and son made an offer to new Kaupthing about paying half of the six billion króna debt to the bank. |

Novator still has it's share in Actavis in a sales process, Novator is by far the biggest owner in the company. According to sources of Morgunblaðið they have received no satisfactory offer for the shares.
Big investers in the market, like international drug companys, have held back and therefore mergers and takeovers are fewer. "We have been told that there might something be odd about the announcement about the increase in share capital of Exista in December. We are looking into this and will be seeking further explanations from the concerned," says Skuli Jonsson chairman of the national company registry.
There is a review of if the increase in the share capital was a violation of the law about corporations. |

The largest domestic claim owners of Exista want to take over the company and put all of its administrators to the side. The letter containing this was sent to Exista just before last weekend and gave the directors a time limit till midnight last night to react to it. If they would not comply with the demand of the claim owners would they call in the entire debt of Exista and put the company into moratorium.

Magnus Thorsteinsson transferred his legal residence from Akureyri to Russia shortly after the case of Straumur-Burdaras against him was filed in the district court of North Iceland in October. The football club West Ham, which is owned by Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, will be taken over by foreign claim owners. It is the English newspaper the Guardian that reports about this tonight. The board of Kaupthing is going to take a decision in the coming days if the takeover offer of Bakkabraedur of Exista will be approved. The offer expects that the shareholders are to have 0,02 króna per share. Rip-off says a shareholder.
In the end of last year registered BBR, company owned by Lydur and Agust Gudmundssons, itself for new owners equity in Exista which was equal to 50 billion shares. Exista was the largest shareholder of Kaupthing but as well as that owns the company VIS, Lifis, Lysing and Skipti which is the parent company of Siminn. |

Liquidating managers of Baugur Group are now investigating transfers of assets out of the estate of the company over on to the name of the chairman of the company, Jon Asgeir Johannesson during the months before the company went into bankruptcy proceedings, according to a news article in the English newspaper Telegraph today. There says that the assets in question are assets in France, England and Denmark.

Bjorgolfur Thor Bjorgolfsson says that neither him or his father have been sued because of the debts of Samson holdings to the bank. Bjorgolfur says that discussions about the payoff of the debt has been ongoing for the last weeks and months and he does not intend to try to avoid his responsibility of paying the debt nor other debts to Icelandic and foreign loan institutes.

Stodir (formerly FL-Group) has requested an authorization from the district court of Reykjavik to seek for emergency contracts with it´s claim owners. The claim owners of the company, which hold 86% of the claims on the company, support that Stodir will continue the financial reorganizing which has amongst other included that the company would be authorized to seek for emergency contracts.
