The intensive care units of Landspitali hospital are getting close to their limit of expansion because of the swine flu, says Bjorn Zoega operating CEO of the hospital. No heart operations will be done on children next week, because the heart machines of the hospital have to be used in the intensive care units. Eight were admitted to the hospital yesterday and last night because of the swine flu there of two into the intensive care unit. In total are thirty in the hospital because of the flu and there of six in the intensive care unit. The pressure and stress has so grown. "This is tough. We are very busy, especially in the intensive care unit, but this are going well," says Bjorn. Bjorn says that the patients are being well cared for and there is perfect security inside the hospital, it is on the other hand true that the intensive care unit is reaching its expansion limits. He says that this will affect the hospital in every ways and next are going to be limited numbers of operations. There has been a decision to postpone all heart operations on children next week - the heart machines have to be used in the intensive care unit. The government approved this morning that there are going to be bough two new lung machines for Landspitali hospital for thirty million króna. Bjorn Zoega celebrates that decision as he says that the hospital is getting close to equipment shortabe because of this increased pressure and stress.
